CUSTODIANS OF OUR COMMON NATURAL HERITAGE

The Five Rivers Conservancy is a distinct bioregion within the Eastern Cape of South Africa, situated at the interface of the Garden Route Biosphere Reserve, the Eden to Addo Corridor, the Baviaanskloof Mega-Reserve, and the Indian Ocean.

 

The Conservancy spans the Kabejous, Gamtoos, Van Stadens, Maitland and Elands River catchment basins and affords pristine and endemic biodiversity, scenic landscapes, deep cultural heritage and a wide range of tourism experiences, creating an integrated conservation management and custodianship area of over 150 000 hectares.

FOCUS AREAS

Our objectives are integrated across several core focus areas:

2. Promote and facilitate long-term ecological sustainability.

3. Promote and facilitate integrated fire management practices.

​

4. Nurture a sense of unity and support community security.

​

5. Promote wise management of game-keeping, wildlife and hunting activities.

​

6. Enhance long-term food security and conservation agriculture practices.

​

7. Facilitate inclusive local economic development.
